  • Love From JD 18/8/20

Today's Video Of The Day is 'Love', the new single from JD Simo's upcoming self-titled solo album due out this Friday 21st August. Frenetic Funk strumming by JD gives way to a passionate vocal delivery as a raucous riff then roars, with Simo tempering buzzing feedback with a hypnotic hook. Indeed, the song certainly contrasts with the record’s recent opening salvo, the Psychedelic soulful ‘One Of Those Days’. Recognised as a formidable guitarist who can channel iconic six stringers such as Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Nolen, while adding a large dash of Blues and Soul, at 34 JD is already a seasoned session musician who has also paid his dues as a frontman, initially as part of the group SIMO and more recently as a solo artist. A number of JD’s contemporaries appear in the video, including Luther Dickinson (The Black Crowes) and Charlie Starr (Blackberry Smoke).

  • Captain Fantastic 17/8/20

Double Grammy® Award-winner Fantastic Negrito not only released his latest album, 'Have You Lost Your Mind Yet?', last Friday via Cooking Vinyl/Blackball Universe, but he also announced European tour dates for next year, which includes a show at London’s Jazz Café on Monday 29th March. The new album marks Fantastic Negrito’s most far-reaching work thus far, fusing elements of Hip-Hop, R&B, Funk, Soul and Rock ‘n’ Roll into an incendiary synthesis all his own. Inspired by and reminiscent of the socio-political albums coming from Black America in the late 1960's and into the 70's, the album sees Negrito exploring the struggle and complexities of mental health issues while continuing his long running lyrical examination of America’s increasingly broken social and political state of affairs.

  • Prince Green Tribute 17/8/20

Following the recent death of the late, great Peter Green, Matt Pearce & The Mutiny have released today's special 2-song Track Of The Day to honour “Green” and “Purple” gods: Peter and Prince: both major musical heroes of Matt and big influences on his own music, not to say on entire genres. The tracks can also be found on Matt’s EP ‘An Ongoing Thing’ on Mutinear Records, and this in-studio performance opens with a purple-tinted cover of Prince’s 1987 ‘Strange Relationship’ that builds in power thanks to exuberant performances from Matt and his fellow Mutineers. Seamlessly, literally without missing a beat, the video segues into colour and Peter Green’s 1969 ‘Oh Well’, released by Fleetwood Mac. The songs feature some wicked licks and verve that will conjure up memories of both, as well as entertain your eyes and ears in the here and now, where their influence and inspirational examples still live on.

  • Twister's Call To Arms 17/8/20

Upcoming New Wave of Classic Rock band Twister are climbing the ranks at an incredible pace and are set to take off with their debut album, ‘Cursed & Corrected’, due to be released on Friday 13th November by Off Yer Rocka Recordings, and today's Video Of The Day is the first of four singles, 'Call To Arms', due out on Friday 28th August. Twister have always been a band of two sides; one with powerful Rock driven riffage opposed and accompanied by their undeniably catchy melodies. Rock and Pop in a ‘Yin and Yan’ type relationship, a fine balancing act constantly moving around equilibrium, tipping the scales with each song. Indeed, it’s all killer and no filler - the 13 best tracks Twister have written since their inception - plus a 11-date European tour supporting The Quireboys, planned for next March.

  • I Curse The Sun For Coming Up Today 16/8/20

Rapidly making a name for himself as one of the most exciting Blues Rock artists in the UK today, Nigel Barker releases his new single, and today's Video Of The Day, ‘I Curse The Sun For Coming Up Today’, on all major digital platforms on Friday 11th September. It's far from run of the mill, it’s innovative, original and genuinely different, and is the third single to be released from Barker’s, much anticipated, forthcoming album 'Five' which comes out on Friday 9th October. Indeed, as Nigel said himself re: his latest single, if you had managed to combine a Blues Rock guitar and orchestral strings and horns, with dubstep and a killer harmonica, then you yourself would want to show it off to the world!

  • The Ocean European Tour 2021 16/8/20

The Ocean, who release their 8th full-length, 'Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic | Cenozoic', via Metal Blade Records/Pelagic Records on Friday 25th September, have also announced details of their 2021 tour, that kicks off on Thursday 7th January in Wiesbaden, Germany, plus sees them hitting the UK in February, with support from Svalbard, PG Lost and Hypno5e. Widely hailed as their finest work to date, 'Phanerozoic I' brimmed with moments of wide-eyed melodic brilliance, alongside the expected warping and weaving of post-Metal conventions. In contrast with the compositional directness of 'Phanerozoic I', the new album is a vastly more Progressive and perverse piece of work and is underpinned by some of the most imaginative and challenging music that guitarist Robin Staps, drummer Paul Seidel, keyboard maestro Peter Voigtmann, bassist Mattias Hagerstrand and guitarist David Ramis Åhfeldt, have made yet.

  • Steve Howe CD Review 16/8/20

"The final song is 'On The Balcony' which starts out quite heavy with fast fuzz tone guitar scale runs and palm muted root note rhythm guitar over a pounding driving drum beat. The intensity and pace eases up in time to allow Howe's soft fragile vocals to enter the narrative. “On The Balcony is a paean to appreciating the roses and ‘just letting things be’”. An enchantingly entrancing sustained guitar solo is superlatively compelling, adding grace and charm. Overall a pleasant enough album with some scintillating and melodic guitar playing that is sure to please die hard Steve Howe fans and maybe even a few Yes fans too!” Today read another one of our great album reviews, as Steven C. Gilbert gives you his take here on Steve Howe's CD 'Love Is', which was released at the end of last month, plus check out our Track Of The Day of 'Love Is A River'.

  • Kings County Seagulls 15/8/20

Orlando Florida's Kings County new single and today's Video Of The Day released yesterday, is a tribute to the 80's New Wave music scene with their in-your-face remake of A Flock of Seagulls mega hit 'I Ran'. Consisting of Rob Dexter (vocals, bass), Steve Bell (guitars, vocals), Joe Lopez (drums) and Bill Kania (guitars, vocals), many established bands past and present have started out as a cover band and Kings County is no exception. Cutting their teeth with constant performances throughout the East Coast, they've built a strong grassroots following. 'I Ran' was produced by Grammy Award winning Producer/Engineer Chuck Alkazian (Pop Evil, Soundgarden, Tantric) at legendary Pearl Sound Studios (Asking Alexandria, Eminem, Filter).
