  • Motor Bikin' 23/5/16

The WRC were delighted to receive from American author Kimberly Bright, a copy of her Chris Spedding bio. The book is available on Amazon as a Kindle edition, but Kimberly has kindly said that we are more than welcome to share our copy with any WRC members who are interested in reading it - although as a thank you, we will remind you that tips are welcome via PayPal! Sometimes described as "to the left of Dave Edmunds and to the right of Brian Eno" and "the best guitarist you've never heard of", Spedding has played on over 200 recording sessions for a wide spectrum of flashes-in-the-pan and renowed artists such as Paul McCartney, Donovan, Elton John, John Cale, Katie Melua and Bryan Ferry. As a producer he has worked with the Sex Pistols, Dee Dee Ramone, the Nils, and the Cramps. He also found time to enjoy Top 20 success in the UK with his own 1975 hit 'Motor Bikin' (our Vid Of The Day). This biography of an underrated, reluctant guitar God will make you reconsider what you think about Rock music!

  • Route 66 Salutes You! 3/4/16

  • Time Has Come 29/3/16

"The momentum slows with 'Time Might Never Come' although the quality is still there on this atmospheric, moody, Blues classic - that entices you into another superb guitar solo plus some great keyboards. Ben demonstrates he literally has 'Soul' on 'Stay At Mine' which rocks n' rolls with his groovy guitar work and his soulful voice is even more evident on 'You've Changed' given its delightful simplicity. 'Just When You Thought It Was Safe' is a boppy affair and further emphasises the unpredictability of this album if you are expecting wall to wall Blues Rock - although just to keep the Blues Police happy Ben throws in another classy Blues guitar solo. From boppy to poppy on 'Whoever Invented Love' as Poole's sweet vocals are bookended by some further excellent guitar work whilst we are back to more familiar Blues territory with the final track - 'The Question Why'." Celebrated Blues Rock guitarist and singer-songwriter, Ben Poole, releases his second studio album, 'Time Has Come' via Manhaton Records this Friday 1st April which has been produced by King King’s drummer, Wayne Proctor. Check out AJ's review here.

  • Dedicated To Owen ..... 19/1/16

This week's Route 66 Track Of The Day has been dedicated to host Rory Auskerry's brother Owen who suffered a brain aneurysm in Thailand last week. Owen's family are all out there with him (including Rory) - and on behalf of the WRC we would like to wish Owen a speedy recovery. As usual it's a busy show packed with new tunes from Inglorious, Last In Line, Danny Bryant, Leroy Miller and The Steve Miller Band. And on a happier note our picture was taken when we caught up Rory and his younger brother Hamish at the awesome ZZ Top gig at Wembley last year.

  • The Brothers Landreth At The Borderline Tonight! 25 August 2015

All roads lead to The Borderline in London tonight as Canadian roots-rockers The Bros. Landreth play their European debut show following the release of their excellent 11-song debut 'Let It Lie' - winner of this years Junos Roots & Traditional Album award. The band's sound is anchored by the bluesy wail of electric guitars, the swell of B3 organ, and the blood harmonies of brothers Joey and David Landreth that has since drawn comparisons to The Band, The Allman Brothers and Jackson Browne. They will be announcing further UK shows for October shortly, but in the meantime enjoy again our 'Runaway Train' Vid Of The Day' taken from the album.
