Vex Red completed their UK headline tour at London's O2 Academy Islington last night, pledging to plant more than 500 trees with the proceeds from the tour and merchandise sales in 2020. Their latest single 'Air' is taken from the band’s recent EP 'Give Me The Dark', via Say Something Recordings. It’s the first collection of new music that the band have released since their debut record 'Start With A Strong And Persistent Desire' back in 2002. Seventeen years is a long time but they’ve picked up exactly where they left off, blending atmospheric electronics with gritty and expansive guitars to deliver their signature punch. 'Supernaturalation' is due to be released this Friday 6th March, and it follows the hard-hitting, three-piece British Alt-Rock, Grunge Rock band's critically acclaimed debut EP, 'Dancing for Money', in 2018. In the meantime, the Oxfordshire based band have toured their contagiously hook-filled, fist pumping sound around the country, including packed venues across Oxfordshire and, indeed, London’s Camden Town.

London-based independent promotion collective Chaos Theory will celebrate their 10th anniversary in their home town today with Chaos Theory Festival at The Dome and Boston Music Room. The line-up features the likes of Zu, Teeth of the Sea, Vodun, Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard (Track Of The Day), Gold, Vasa, Undersmile, Memory of Elephants, Årabrot and Mai Mai Mai plus end.user who will also headline the official after party. Also today, just up the Northern Line, Camden Rocks Festival presents an all-day Rock-n-Roll bonanza featuring Bugeye, The Vegetable Collective, The Spangles, The Filthy Spectacula, The Silver Bayonets, The Darts, Soho Dukes, Stone Shiva, Dead At Eleven and The Fix, at The Latin Groove Lounge Club from 1.30pm. "The song's growing crescendo ends abruptly to leave Kim to finish off the last few bars with her clear plaintiff voice. The white Tele is swapped for a similarly coloured Flying V for 'Colourblind' with a staccato guitar intro which leads into some choppy Pop Rock whereas 'Take Me Down' is a headbanging chugging Rock riff monster overlaid with Myke's intricate fingerpicking and full band backing on vocals. Kim forays out on to a small balcony to balance precariously above the crowd, posing for photos to a powerful Rock backing. Okay, it’s only 3 feet off the ground but that’s a long way up for some people. And it didn’t stop her jumping into the crowd to Rock along amongst them." Cult Rock band, Leaf Hound (Video Of The Day) is playing the Eel Pie Club tonight at The Patch, 67 London Road, Twickenham TW1 3SZ. Led by original vocalist, Peter French (also of Atomic Rooster fame who we recently saw headlining London's iconic 100 Club - pictured), Leaf Hound was a product of the SW London Rock scene of the late 60's which spawned the likes of Free and other Blues-Rock acts. Their 1971 'Growers of Mushroom' album has achieved massive cult status and French's reputation as a potent lead vocalist also led him to a stint with Carmine Appice's US band, Cactus. Leaf Hound was reformed in 2004 and since then the band has re-issued 'Growers of Mushroom', recorded a new album, 'Unleashed', and released a Leaf Hound 'Live in Japan' CD/DVD. Doors open at 8.15pm with music from 9-11pm. WRC members are reminded that they can use their cards to get discounted admission.

With a review still to come of last Thursday's Blues Review featuring Jim Kahr (pictured and Track Of The Day) at London's original Ealing Club - the Birthplace of British Rhythm and Blues - the good news is that Jim is also playing The Royal Standard in Blackheath tonight supported by Steve Hewitt. Also tonight, Goo Goo Dolls are playing a sold out show at London’s Roundhouse, whilst Electric Enemy, who recently released their latest single ‘Save Me’, are playing the first of two London gigs at The Waiting Room with The Hubbards as support, followed by The Fiddler’s Elbow next Thursday 5th March.

"Their title track was written using a baritone guitar, and right from its opening riff, the addictive hook and aggressive vocal immediately slaps you around the face (think The Offspring), setting the tone and hooks for a real foot stomping head banging groove and chorus, that takes a dig at hypocritical attitudes to drug addiction in society. Their first single released last month, 'She Said', is an infectious Hard Rock collision reminiscent of The Brew meets Black Orchid Empire (check them both out as well), with its swirling guitars intro, melodic verses, cool wah riff, punchy chorus and soaring vocals. Ironically its subject matter is all about perseverance, although you won't have to worry about that as its a track you will want to play over and over again."
