It was good to catch up with our old mate Bill Mead of The Sharpees at The Fiddler's Elbow the other night. Guitarist and vocalist Bill took in both Loose Moorings and Blacktop Deluxe whilst the WRC kept an eye on Bill's van - only joking Bill! The Sharpees now have ex-Rory Gallagher drummer Brendan O'Neill in their line-up and are currently touring. It sure was close, but Chantel McGregor saw off the mighty challenges of both Aynsley Lister and Kenny Wayne Shepherd to win the WRC's Best Blues Performance for 2014. That's how Wrinkly summed up a special London show at The Borderline on Tuesday night where U2 2 were in concert with all money raised going to Mencap. Even the biggest WRC critic of them all - Wrinkly The Elder - said it was the best gig he had been to for a long long time! Praise indeed! On the first night of his UK tour, the guitar legend Joe Satriani joined Rory Auskerry on Sunday night's Route 66 for a special interview. On today's Track Of The Day they discuss some of the stories behind his songs, why Joe has never really taken to writing lyrics, how artificial constraints can help during the creative process and how not all rock singers are created equal. Along with music from throughout Satriani’s career, there are also new tracks from Mike Zito & The Wheel, Billy Gibbons & The BFG’s, King King, Geoff Carne, Keith Richards and Jenny Kerr.

They blew the bloody roof off the last time we promoted them (see pic), so we were delighted to hear from lead guitarist Mark Dawson about their forthcoming gig at The Orchard Theatre, Dartford, on Wednesday 22nd July - and we will be there! Voted WRC Best Tribute Act of 2012, Purple Zeppelin are proud to pay tribute to the two greatest Rock Bands of all time, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin – together on the same bill for the very first time!!! Many years have passed since the last UK gigs from the classic line-ups of both bands. Other than seeing Bruce Springsteen live at Hyde Park in 2012 - another highlight of the day was catching South Carolina Rock band Needtobreathe earlier in the proceedings - and yes if you look carefully - they are actually on that Hard Rock Calling poster! Anyway the guys are back tonight at The Koko in London and our Vid Of The Day is dedicated to them - taken at The Borderline almost five years ago.
