  • Old Habits Die Hard 25/10/16

No Sinner (Vid Of The Day) begin the UK leg of their Old Habits Die Hard tour tonight at London's Borderline. This follows the release of their new album of the same name in May through the Provogue/Mascot Label Group. 2014's 'Boo Hoo Hoo' was a classic debut album experience from Vancouver’s powerhouse frontwoman Colleen Rennison - the result of years spent fronting cover bands with players ten years her senior, writing with musicians more seasoned and eager to give direction. 'Boo Hoo Hoo' was raucous, rowdy and filled with soul and danger. It was the sound of a wild haired girl riding into the horizon on the back of her boyfriend’s motorcycle. On 'Old Habits Die Hard' Colleen isn’t sitting on the back of the motorcycle anymore. She’s barrelling down the highway, her grip on the throttle, and you better believe you’re going to hear her coming from miles away!

  • An Evening For Jack 25/10/16

"The word was that the desperately missed Gary Moore was originally going to be handed this gig. Given the sumptuous ease in which Moore knocked off Cream classic after classic with Jack at the Dick Heckstall-Smith Tribute at The Astoria in June 2005 - this would have been a no-brainer. So step up to the plate a certain Joe Bonamassa. The talk was also that it would be so fitting for Bruce and Bonamassa to take this opportunity - given it was a celebration of sixty years of British Blues - to pay homage to Moore himself. An ill advised pit stop resulted in me re-entering the auditorium just as Jack and Joe launched into Midnight Blues - and what a stunning tribute this was to Gary. If any of the Bruce faithful had not heard or seen Bonamassa before they were certainly sitting up and listening during Joe’s solo on ‘Theme For An Imaginary Western’ - from Jack's debut solo album, ‘Songs For A Tailor’." Dateline: Saturday 4th June 2011 - Royal Festival Hall, London (pictured) - the last review we did of the late great Jack Bruce who's career is being celebrated at the Shepherd's Bush Empire tonight - and we will be there!

  • Power Of Trower 24/10/16

"No messing about as they dipped straight into the aforementioned 'BOS' - Richard Watts' bass intro on 'Too Rolling Stoned' kickstarting Trower's guitar as his first (and not his last) solo weaved around drummer Christopher Taggart's beat and Watts' vocals. And if his psychedelic Blues tones on 'See My Life' from 'Roots And Branches' did not give you a feeling of parallel's with Hendrix then I'm not sure what would - again another guitar journey that had you hanging off every twist and turn with Watt's vocal delivery the perfect foil. 'Not Inside - Outside' from 2010's 'The Playful Heart' had a hard act to follow - although another awesome guitar solo was punctuated fleetingly by Trower on vocals as was the whole of the title track from new album 'Where Are You Going To' - which proudly stood shoulder to shoulder with his set list so far." • Liquid Diet 23/10/16

RPWL guitarist Kalle Wallner (aka Blind Ego) has taken seven years to complete his third solo effort 'Liquid' - which was released last Friday and is today's Vid Of The Day. While 2007’s debut 'Mirror' sounded smooth and almost melancholic, the Freising-native Bavarian utilized the figurative steam hammer on 2009’s 'Numb' and served the audience with a tough as nails monster of Hard Rock heavily influenced by Metal. 'Liquid' now fuses the two earlier approaches without merely being a thrown together sum of its parts. In fact the elements were organically merged – and the result contains nine pieces of music that offer everything: from mighty Hard Rock melodies to brutal Heavy Metal riffing action all the way to emotionally charged passages.

  • Tremor 22/10/16

The melodic croon of ‘Love Behind You’ firmly engages ears and thoughts with another side to the band’s sound where pulsating beats align with a melancholic caress of guitar as Burkey’s voice shines with emotive expression. Shades of Snow Patrol here without doubt and encapsulated by the acoustic led ‘Slide By’ straight after. Elegant and sombre, the track is a serenade of acoustic and melodic flames which also builds more aurally dramatic points in its contemplation. Indeed, the electric guitar hook that drifts in and out of that song is also reminiscent of the mighty Coldplay no less....
