On Friday 23rd April, guitar legend Steve Cropper will release ‘Fire It Up', including today's Video Of The Day of 'Far Away', his first album since 1969 to feature his solo name on it, after decades of stardom in Soul, Blues, and Rock and Roll. Cropper is that guitar on 'Green Onions' by Booker T. & The MGs, who were the house band for Stax Records. He's also a founding member of the Blues Brothers, reintroducing classic Soul to unsuspecting audiences, with Rolling Stone ranking him in the top 40 all-time greatest guitarists. Indeed, 'Midnight Hour' by Wilson Pickett, '(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay' by Otis Redding, 'Soul Man' and 'Hold On I’m Coming' by Sam and Dave - you simply can’t discuss Soul music without Steve!

In the vein of the Dropkick Murphys, Australian band The Rumjacks' new album, 'Hestia', is due outon Thursday 12th March, and ahead of its release, they have shared today's Video Of The Day for the title track. Steeped in layers of symbolism, it’s a huge track about a girl who shoots down a personified wolf in an act of defence, wrapped up in their irresistibly infectious and driving brand of Celtic Punk. It's also a great taste of the album, which is packed full of infectious, rousing, pint-in-hand singalong tunes, and wrapped up in riff-heavy instrumentals which equally draw on their Celtic influences as well as contemporary Rock. Indeed, for the past twelve years, The Rumjacks have written songs that you cannot help but start singing by the second chorus, even if you have never heard them before! It's their fifth studio album, which marks a new era, as it introduces new lead singer Mike Rivkees, whose songwriting skills have rejuvenated the band’s collaborative spirit. The album was recorded under strict Covid-conditions in Milan, Italy, where the band stayed last year and created the album through August to October.

Reigning as one of the most well-known experimental instrumental groups out there with a respected musical legacy spanning nearly 20 years, Irish four-piece God Is An Astronaut will reach a career benchmark next Friday 12th February, upon the release of their 10th studio album, 'Ghost Tapes #10', of which the first track, 'Burial', is today's Video Of The Day. Founded by Niels and Torsten Kinsella in 2002, every piece of music the band has breathed life into since then has offered an intense sonic soundscape, leading the listener through an ethereal and emotional Post Rock dive into infinite atmospheres. Indeed, 'Ghost Tapes #10' rekindles the band’s classic line up with Jamie Dean once again on piano and guitar duties, and rather than pick up where the quartet left off in 2018, explores a radically different approach, with the focus fixed on movement and intensity. While the album is certainly the most ferocious full-length to date, it still retains all of the rich musical and emotive elements the band is known for by manoeuvring around luminescence whilst offering harsh, deep reflections as well.
