American band L. A. Edwards have released a real peach of a single, ‘Gone 4U’ as a prelude to their forthcoming album ‘Pie Town’, which is due out on Friday 5th July.

After a few misleading introductory notes emulating a child’s Glockenspiel the song explodes into a beautifully up-tempo and summery piece of power Pop that brings backs the excitement of early 80s New Wave, flavoured with the knowing awareness of 40 years of subsequent musical history.

It’s all chiming, jangly guitars floating underneath the melodically distinctive vocals of singer and band leader Luke Andrew Edwards, one of three brothers in this combo; all overlaid with West Coast harmonies adding to the breezy vibe. It’s a really good song and the band’s performance brings to mind one of my musical heroes, the late, great Tom Petty.

The band have been over to Europe a few times recently supporting Rival Sons and Lucinda Williams, and are due to undertake their own European headline tour in July, including dates in the UK. I caught them at the O2 Indigo in February and they were very impressive. This is a band that is definitely on the way up, so catch them if you can.
