- Introducing ..... Phillip Foxley 28 Feb 2015
It's becoming more and more apparent to us at Wrinkly Towers that our members are certainly a talented lot. Take for example North Wales based UK songwriter/guitarist Phillip Foxley who is todays 'Introducing ...' feature and is also our 'Track Of The Day'. Phil has a long background of musical experience spanning back to the 1970’s where he got his start not only gaining experience live on stage but as an accomplished studio session player as well. With an influence ranging in diversity from David Bowie to Black Sabbath to Mountain along with a number of the Blues greats, he has formed his own signature sound of Blues/Rock music. He has recently released a home studio demo EP sampler entitled 'One Song Is All You Need..' and his intention is to release a professionally recorded debut album early this year.
- Shoot-Out At The Half Moon! 23 September 2015
The eagerly anticipated shoot-out on the banks of The Thames had nothing to do with the Fulham v. Stoke Cup tie being played at The Cottage last night! No, the real deal was at The Half Moon, Putney, as the Blues Rock of support band Southbound took on the Classic Rock of Shooter at their 'Recycled Teenagers' launch party - very appropriate for the WRC! Anyway, were Shooter loud, dirty, fun and raunchy and did Southbound live up to their reputation as an extremely talented up and coming band? Well for starters take a gander at today's Vid Of The Day with more pics, vids and a review to come over the next few days!
- Band Of Brothers! 27 August 2015
"We were then into ‘LIL’ territory with the groovy and foot-tappin’ ‘Tappin’ On The Glass’ and just to prove they could mix it up ‘I Am The Fool’ with its neat Country riff (originally written by Landreth Senior no less) cemented the strength of ‘LIL’ after just two tracks. The groove of ‘Made Up Mind’ was followed by the album’s title track (see Vid Of The Day), Joey preferring live electric to acoustic on the album – although still the same result – perfect. A couple more covers were thrown in for good measure: Lyle Lovett’s ‘If I Had A Boat’ and John Hiatt’s ‘Alone In The Dark’ – the former an enchanting acoustic/harmony gathering – the latter nailed – again despite no keys. Rhino and Dave were the archetypal spine of the band - with Rhino chipping in with a bit of banter whilst Dave proved later in the set that his brother was not the only one with great vocals!" - Introducing ....... Voodoo Vegas 24 August 2015
Following the release of their critically acclaimed debut album 'The Rise Of Jimmy Silver' in 2013 and last years UK/European tour with American rockers Y&T - Bournemouth hard rock five- piece Voodoo Vegas will release their new EP 'Hypnotise' on Monday 12th October. The new EP features four tracks of pumped up, high voltage rock n' roll that will please anyone that's a fan of hard rock music. Laying down a foundation of essential classic rock, Voodoo Vegas (our Vid Of The Day) have stripped away their sound and put the pieces back together to create a collection of music that is modern, fresh and demands it be turned up, loud!
- Loretta's Favourite Track Of The Day! 17 August 2015
Andre Bisson Rhythm & Blues Experience Cello and Trumpet player Loretta Hale kindly favourited our WRC tweet ahead of their gig last week at the Tuesday Night Music Club (picture courtesy of Rockrpix)! Anyway, you can now listen to both Andre and Loretta on Richard Dunning's Blues On The Radio show, recorded before the gig, which is today's Track Of The Day. Of course Richard also plays the best of the new releases, all the tracks up for 'Song of the Year' in the British Blues Awards plus gives you a heads up on where to see the best Blues!
- Ramblin' Man Warm Up Tonight! 24 July 2015
And talking of Ramblin' Man - a final reminder folks for those of you driving down today. Scopyons (the Scorpions Tribute Band) are at The Rafters, Maidstone, tonight but not on stage until 10.30pm to allow those coming from afar to all to get checked in to your hotels and get down for a good Ramblin' Man Fair warm up show! - Ain't Nothin' Goin' On! 10 August 2015
"The pace slowed with their self written 'All I Got' with great vocals and a contemporary Blues twist, and following a simmering cover of 'When My Train Pulls In', the band left us on a high with another of their own songs 'Ain't Nothing Goin' On'. With a pounding start by Sam on the drums, this rocker perfectly fused the band's early seventies influences with a more contemporary abrasive Bluesy sound." That was part of Jules' recent Rainbreakers BluesRockfest review and now we're delighted to feature their brilliant new video of 'Ain't Nothin' Goin' On' as today's VOTD - hot off the press last night!
- You Really Got Me! 12 August 2015
Our thanks to WRC member Ian Cawthron for today's Vid Of The Day - Ray Davies at last Saturday's Glastonbury Abbey Extravaganza! To be fair Ian was a bit unsure as to whether our WRC definition of Rock embraced the Kinks and Ray is definitely a Wrinkly! Of course the answer is yes - what with classics 'You Really Got Me' and 'Lola' - so watch out shortly for a review of the day courtesy of Ian!
- Komedian Larry! 10 June 2015
Last week our old mucker Larry Miller completed three successful gigs in Scotland of which the Kinross gig was attended by ecstatic WRC member Keith Baxter! Accordingly our Vid Of The Day is brilliant footage of Larry's Edinburgh gig. Meanwhile tonight Larry is back down 'sarf' playing the Komedia in Brighton - unfortunately just three days before a strong WRC contingent head down there for a Stag weekend. Shame!
- Rock And Roll! 30 May 2015
Was it a case of 'Dazed And Confused' or a 'Whole Lotta Love' as the WRC took in 'Hats Off To Led Zeppelin' at The Brooklyn Bowl last night under the the umbrella of the O2 Arena, London. The advance hype was not only were they the official UK No.1 Tribute to the Gods of Rock and Roll but are also the only Tribute act in the UK officially endorsed by Marshall amplifiers and they are managed by none other than Warren Grant .. for the uninitiated, his father Peter was Led Zeppelin's manager! Anyway for starters our Vid Of The Day is from last night's gig - but watch out for more pics and a review coming shortly!
