  • Classic Quadrophenia 13 July 2015

"Despite Townshend's brief to in-demand orchestrator Rachel Fuller of "no extra notes" - Fuller (Townshend's other half by the way) was quoted as saying the orchestration was "easy" - testament no doubt to an emotional rollercoaster of a score fitting hand in glove with a classical orchestra. And as soon as conductor Robert Ziegler raised his baton in front of the The Royal Philarmonic Orchestra with 'I Am The Sea' the musical waves drew the audience - Mod or Classical - in as one like an enchanting mermaid. Alfie Boe's voice on 'The Real Me' - although obviously different from Daltrey's - is as powerful as Roger's in his heyday with a physique to match. TRPO's mesmerising performance of the moving title track 'Quadrophenia' contrasted with the adolescent angst of 'Cut My Hair' not only saw the introduction of the snarling Billy Idol but Boe also delivered the stand-out line "My Old Man Is Really Alright". See our Video Of The Week and read the rest of AJ's Classic Quadrophenia review here.

  • First BluesRockFest Sponsor Announced 15/5/16

The WRC are delighted to announce that Vape Pod - the tastier smoking alternative - are sponsoring Red Butler at this year's BluesRockFest on Saturday 24th September at Leo's Red Lion, Gravesend. All of their e-cigarette and e-juice products are of supreme quality, pharma-grade, and delivered pure and undiluted from a reputable UK based company. In September 2015, Red Butler (Vid Of The Day) came runners up in the Emerging Artist category of the British Blues Awards, with Alex Butler also runner up for Young Artist. In October 2015, the band won the second UK Blues Challenge, and represented the UK this year at the European Blues Challenge hosted in Italy.

  • Joker & The Thief & The Forum! 20/4/16

"The static frizzy hair of the frontman, mixed with the energetic chemistry of his band is phenomenal when seen and heard live, and the Indigo 02 becomes an impressive musical playground as an over-excited Peres balances his entire body on the keyboard at one point. Fans gasp at the band as the place goes wild during the encore for the ever-famous riff of ‘Joker and the Thief’, which ends the night in style. This Indigo stage is made for the Australians and it is exactly where they belong. After all, Wolfmother’s sound is best complimented and seemingly made especially to suit live performances. I for one cannot wait to see them again!!!" Unfortunately, WTS will be otherwise engaged at ELO tonight following his review above from July 2012 (pictured)! However, another WRC contingent will be at The Forum, Kentish Town, tonight to take in the mighty Wolfmother!

  • Thunder For Ramblin' Man! 22/2/16

Despite being in the 'cheap seats' rather than his usual photo pit - Rockrpix's John Bull still managed to take this superb pic of Thunder lead singer Danny Bowes at Wembley Arena last Saturday night. First up on the bill were King King who apparently did themselves proud although we understand next band Terrorvision were not everyone's cup of tea? "Thunder were absolutely brilliant" and "Thunder were FAB" were the 'considered' views of WRC members present at the end of the gig - also buoyed by the news that they would also be playing Ramblin' Man in July!

  • Dom On Target! 14/2/16

As you no doubt know, our mates Shooter (today's Track Of The Day) are going out with a bang (supported by 2015 WRC Award winners Southbound) at their farewell gig at The Half Moon, Putney, London, on Thursday 3rd March here. Shooter frontman Dom O'Riley is also running the Fulham F.C. Craven Cottage 10k run today in aid of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and we are delighted to report that he has already broken through his fundraising target of £750. So if you fancy supporting Dom then either get down to the banks of The Thames today or donate here ... or do both!
