- Run For Cover! 30/4/16
The launch of the Blackfen TRADER just under twenty three years ago gave the opportunity to feed the passion of two lifelong friends to cut their teeth in music journalism, reviewing local gigs, particularly at The Woodman in Blackfen, Kent, in their monthly ‘Caught Live’ column. And ever since that non-internet era their mutual appreciation of live (mainly Rock) music has grown into a musical appreciation network: The Wrinkly Rockers Club. So tonight we return to where it all started (now called The George Staples) - as the WRC take in Run For Cover (Classic Rock Covers) and Glamstar (Glam Rock Tribute) tonight from 8pm. Admission is free!

- Long May You Sail! 11/4/16
"The crutch lying next to JD Simo on the Barfly dressing room floor was a mighty shock as we learnt during our pre-gig interview that JD had a "Dave Grohl moment" when he dislocated his knee on stage on the first leg (no pun intended) of SIMO's European tour in Paris three days earlier. The stock question of "how's the tour going so far?" met on this occasion with an incredulous answer! Anyway, White Hot Nashville Blues trio SIMO returned to London following their critically acclaimed St. Moritz Club showcase gig plus their Walter Trout support at The Forum last November." Read the rest of AJ's SIMO, Fred Abbott and The Second Echo review here, check out our photo gallery here plus our Video Vault here.

- Gig #2 Tonite - The Brothers Landreth 3/3/16
"Joey and Ariel’s boogie-woogie guitars heralded ‘Runaway Train’ as we continued down the ‘LIL’ track slowing down at ‘Nothin’, then all-change with the hand-clapping audience participation of the Staple Singers ‘Tell Him What You Want – Jesus On The Mainline’ and then back on track and finishing with the album stand-out ‘Our Love’ – and again despite no keys - the foundation of the song was built for the classic guitar solo from Posen - although the Prog in me maintains it ends too early! The guys were on a roll and the encore began slowly with the delightful ‘Greenhouse’, continued with ‘Where Were We’ and despite their ‘roots’ being from Winnipeg - ‘Dixie’ I suppose was never more appropriate to round off a memorable evening!" That was AJ's take on The Brothers Landreth last August and both Mr. Rockrpix and Big Ian will be there at The Garage, London, representing the WRC tonight!

- Avantasia Bounce Back! 27/2/16
His giant project can't be pigeonholed: mystic, magic, rock and bombast meet with lush melodies and create spectacular, epic fireworks. German fans of the Eurovision Song Contest had the chance to nominate Avantasia and Tobias Sammet - one of the most internationally successful German musicians - in Cologne on Thursday night for the 2016 ESC final in Stockholm in May. Unfortunately, despite competing with their current single 'Mystery Of A Blood Red Rose' (today's Vid Of The Day) - Sammet and the guys did not win - but the good news is that you can see Avantasia on their 'Ghostlights' tour at The Forum in London on Tuesday 8th March!
