- Ramblin' Man Countdown - The Pineapple Thief 21 July 2015
No surprises we guess as we continue our pick of the bands over the three Ramblin' Man stages this Sunday. Yes we gave a massive hint yesterday that we would be heading towards the Prog Stage to hopefully catch the end of Knifeworld's set - so the next band on our list has to be WRC favourites The Pineapple Thief (our Vid Of The Day) who are on stage at 3.35pm. The WRC actually saw TPT's very first gig at The Whitchurch Festival twelve years ago but they were actually formed in 1999 by founder and chief songwriter Bruce Soord as an experimental bedroom project! TPT have pursued a distinctive and idiosyncratic path over the years; always evolving, always progressing, but never forgetting that the most potent weapon in any artist’s arsenal is the lovingly crafted song itself. Widely hailed as one of the most powerful and invigorating live rock bands the UK has produced in a long time, TPT have refined and redefined their sound over and over again since those tentative early days. Recent albums like Someone Here Is Missing (2010) All The Wars (2012) and their latest Magnolia (2014) have contributed hugely to their reputation and renown, garnering frothing plaudits from the rock media and drawing in fans from across today’s vast alternative music spectrum.

Eighteen months after John Verity unfortunately had to pull out of BluesFest 2014 because of band illness, JV finally made it to Leos Red Lion last night ... and it was well worth the wait. - "Even Better Than The Real Thing" 20/12/15
"With the crowd already warmed up with the first two tracks, “Bono” was quick to latch on to the lyrics of the next track namely 'Even Better Than the Real Thing' by motioning to each member of the band as he repeated the lyric – no one in the crowd appeared to disagree with the sentiment. Next up was 'Mysterious Ways' which AJ had eluded too and the noise from the crowd moved up a notch. The set was moving along nicely before organiser Ciara was invited on to the stage to duet with Bono to the anthem 'I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For' (Vid Of The Day) – to say the roof came off is an understatement and it was thoroughly deserved. With the crowd fully engaged by now they were not going to slacken the pace and three heavyweight tracks followed in 'Vertigo', 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' and 'Beautiful Day' soon to be joined by 'I Will Follow'. If that wasn’t enough we still had 'The Streets Have No Name' and 'With Or Without You' to come. Brilliant evening and not just because of the quality of the band." See our Vid Of The Day and read the rest of Wrinkly's U2-2 review here.
