  • Big River Has The Blues! 13/10/15

Big River is the idea of Gravesend Guitarist Damo Fawsett, after playing a last minute gig with his old cohorts in The Chosen Few, his passion for Blues music resurfaced. Then upon seeing Vintage Trouble on TV, he realised that the Blues is well and truly alive and reaching a whole new generation of fans! No stranger to the WRC, having played at Bluesfest 2014, Damo began his search for like minded people and after a Dartford rehearsal studio session, Big River was born! Joining Fawsett in the band is Adam Bartholomew on vocals, who Damo tells us can out-soul Paul Rodgers and scream like Glenn Hughes in the next breath! Luke Calvert is on Drums, praised by Damo as "technically brilliant and all the while lays down a flawless groove" plus Ant Wellman on bass who was previously with the Reagan Browne Band and currently tours all over the UK and Europe with The Lambrettas - "a style of Jaco Pastorius and Andy Fraser - he was the perfect choice to lay down the bottom end" adds Damo. Big River has a seriously powerful sound all of their own and cover Blues tracks from all eras from Hendrix and Free through to modern bands like Rival Sons and Vintage Trouble - with the image to match. Big River will be one to watch and they hit the road from December 2015.

  • WRC. Video. Erased. 1/10/2015

Fingers crossed that our Steven Wilson Royal Albert Hall Photo Gallery doesn't go the same way as yesterday's Video Of The Day! Suffice to say the WRC were sent a legal notice about the copyrighted content in our video. As a result, the video was removed from YouTube! Not the first time this has happened either - hence our 'stewards permitting' comment re: our coverage before the gig! Such a shame, as at the end of the day, our only intention is to share our love of music through our website and certainly was not for any financial gain! Needless to say we don't hold any grudges but in protest we will not only be cancelling our planned review of a truly memorable night of Wilson/Porcupine Tree but will also continue today with yesterday's Vid Of The Day even though it has been removed!

  • Troy Casts His Spell - Live! 3 September 2015

"On a high he could have left the stage then but, no - he’d saved the best to last. Now was the time to really unleash and demonstrate why his guitar playing has been so highly praised (as if he hadn’t already!). Voodoo Chile is always a bit of a crowd pleaser but it perfectly fits Troys style and he attacks it with diving and soaring runs as that slide shoots up and down the fretboard. Many have tried, but not many can really make this song their own - Troy Redfern does just that, and with style." That was Richard Dunning's take on the Troy Redfern Band at this year's BluesRockfest and that particular live track is today's Track Of The Day! Watch out for more live tracks to be released from all the bands on that memorable day in July plus how you can buy the DVD/CD!

  • Up Next - Thunder! 23 June 2015

"Following Michael Schenker onto the Main Stage were Thunder who more than justified their billing (many of the fans here would have been happy for Danny Bowes and the boys to take the headline slot) and if this ‘one-off’ comeback really was a flash in the pan then it proved to be a blast. Overlooking the fact he dances like the proverbial uncle at a wedding (accentuated by his suit jacket), Danny Bowes is both one of the UK's best and most precise rock voices, and a consummate ringleader. A magnificent rendition of 'Love Walked In' (see Vid Of The Day) rivalled Schenker’s Scorpions numbers with a great solo from Luke Morley. They also knock out the other hits: ‘Back Street Symphony’ ‘Dirty Love’ and of course their cover of ‘Gimme Some Lovin’ which has the whole crowd grinning from ear to ear. It’s like ice cream in your ear. In a good way of course ! It is a joyful celebration of the band that gave us such a fantastic 20 years, and if all we get to see of them is occasional one-offs like this (Xmas 2011?) then we'll treasure every moment. If this is indeed the very last time we see them, then this was quite a goodbye." That was our WRC take on Thunder at High Voltage in 2011 and they're still going strong supporting ZZ Top at Wembley arena tomorrow night. See you there!
