- Introducing .... Cherry White 23/2/16
Cherry White have recently released their new EP entitled 'Staring at the Sun' and this year they're taking it on tour, including as many festivals as they can get to. They're a Blues influenced Rock band, and their brand of Blues and high energy Classic Rock is something that live audiences really respond to. They've been out and about gigging the EP everywhere from Berlin to the Planet Rock Radio festival Planet Rockstock in 2015 and hope to play more festival dates at great events in 2016! Anyway check them out on our 'Introducing ...' page here.
- Quadrophenia Photo Gallery 13/2/16
Well the promoters of Thursday night's Quadrophenia at London’s Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith, promised a fully immersed cinematic and theatrical experience - and they certainly delivered - as today's new photo gallery here testifies. As well as the film, there was fighting in the aisles, Rockers being thrown off of the Circle into the Stalls (seriously), the Q&A with Phil Daniels, Phil Davis, Toyah Wilcox and John Altman, Vespas, plus the all-important sounds of the day performed live by leading Who tribute act Who’s Who.
- Capturing The Spirit Of '64! 12/2/16
All Vespas led to London’s Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith, last night as British movie classic Quadrophenia became a fully immersed cinematic and theatrical experience - and a healthy number of WRC faces were there to witness it! Plunging fans into the sights and sounds of 1964 and capturing the spirit of the era - as well as the film - many of the film’s stars took part including Phil Daniels who took the central role as disaffected Mod teenager Jimmy Cooper. As well as sharing their memories in a Q&A, the all-important sounds of the day were performed live by leading Who tribute act Who’s Who (today's Vid Of The Day) plus memorabilia including original Vespas and their real life Mod owners! Watch out for more pics tomorrow!
- Since You Been Gone! 20/1/16
Hands up those of you who didn't know that today's Vid Of The Day was actually released roughly three years before Rainbow had a hit single covering it? Anyway, the WRC managed to snap up the last remaining tickets to see the ex-Argent singer/songwriter at a 'An Evening With Russ Ballard' at the Leicester Square Theatre, London, tonight! And among the legends guests are Kelly Ellis and some guitarist geezer called Brian May. We're soooo excited so watch out for a review over the coming days plus some pics and possibly a vid!
- Picture This ... But No Videos!!! 27/1/16
Thankfully the London Tube strike has been suspended - so all roads still lead to the Hammersmith Apollo for 2015 WRC Award nominee Steven Wilson's gig tonight. The four-time Grammy nominee, multi-instrumentalist and producer, follows up on his acclaimed 'Hand. Cannot. Erase.' with the new interim album '4 ½' (gettit?) released last Friday. Produced and mixed by the man himself, '4 ½' (see Our Vid Of The Day) features a stellar group of musicians including Adam Holzman (keyboards), Nick Beggs (bass), Guthrie Govan (guitar), Dave Kilminster (guitar), Marco Minnemann (drums), Chad Wackerman (drums), Craig Blundell (drums) and Theo Travis. And we will be there - including Mr. Prog himself whose SW 'The Raven That Refused To Sing' picture (pictured) adorns his kitchen wall! Expect a review and a few pics but no videos (in-joke) of the evening!
- WRC's Hair Of The Dog! 2 August 2015
The first time we saw Nazareth was at The Great British Music Festival at Olympia! It was a 3 day event and just look at the line up on this poster - for £3.50 each day you could see some of the best bands of all time. Our overriding memories of the day were seeing Ronnie Lane's Slim Chance who had just formed after the split of The Faces (still going strong and well worth seeing) and then Nazareth lifting the roof off the place so much so that Bad Company took to the stage and just said "follow that!" Just under forty years down the line we are off to see them again at the Brooklyn Bowl in the O2 Arena, London, exactly in a month's time. Understandably the components have changed over time a bit like Trigger's broom - but hey you can't beat a bit of 'WokeUp This Morning' and the WRC are always thankful for a 'Hair Of The Dog' (our Vid Of The Day). Give us a shout if you will also be there!
- Albany Down For WRC Xmas Party! 20 August 2015
Further to yesterday's release of our first live track from BluesRockfest - the WRC are delighted to announce that Albany Down will be headlining the WRC Xmas Party at The Horn Reborn in St Albans on Wednesday 2nd December. It's been a great year for the WRC - so what better way to end it than with a party night? Provisional ticketing prices are £9 on the door, £7 in advance and £5 for WRC Members! So make sure a) you put the date in your diary and b) if you're not a member already - then you can save yourself the cost of a pint by signing up here!
- BluesRockfest Countdown - Little Devils 2 July 2015
Now just 3 days to go as our countdown to BluesRockfest at The Red Lion, Gravesend, this Saturday 4th July hits the local headlines! The fourth band on stage at 6.45pm and sponsored by the Blues Club podcast are 2014 WRC Award winners Little Devils (our Vid Of The Day). Little Devils were formed in 2010, have produced three CDs, were voted Best Live Band in 2011 and were finalists in the New Brunswick Battle of the Blues 2012. Their sound has been described as an eclectic mix of R&B, Dylanesque Americana and Rock & Blues. 2013 saw their song 'Deep Inside' selected as the first track on 'The Best of British Blues' which was voted No. 1 album by the IAAB in January 2014. They launched their latest album 'The Storm Inside' in May 2015 and having performed in both the UK and Europe, their fan base has greatly increased and live performances continue to receive rave reviews. Go here for ticket information on all the bands that are playing at this year's BluesRockfest and remember if you are a WRC member just go here where you can get a £3 discount on your ticket!
- When Giants Finally Come Together ..... 20 July 2015
They blew the bloody roof off the last time we promoted them, so the WRC are really looking forward to seeing their forthcoming gig at The Orchard Theatre, Dartford, this Wednesday 22nd July! Voted WRC Best Tribute Act of 2012, Purple Zeppelin are proud to pay tribute to the two greatest Rock Bands of all time, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin – together on the same bill for the very first time!!! Many years have passed since the last UK gigs from the classic line-ups of both bands. Whether you were lucky enough to have seen the originals live or not, Purple Zeppelin will take you back to the magic, the excitement and the sheer raw energy generated by those incredible musicians. And you can still buy tickets priced £19 here - do not miss out!
- WRC Punks On Tour! 15 June 2015
OK so the date is not on our official '2015 WRC On Tour' t-shirt but The WRC bandwagon stopped off for a bit of 'Free Punk Rock' at The Prince Albert in Brighton on Saturday night! And what a great night we had with no less than four bands - namely Sweet Jonny, Pig City Angels, Atombuzz and headliners Skurvi. We would all like to thank the venue for making us so welcome plus all the bands for being so friendly and not gobbing at us! Watch out for more pics of the night shortly but in the meantime our Vid Of The Day is handed over to the Gods of Punk - The Sex Pistols!
