When Evil Blizzard emerged from the bowels of Lancashire with their debut album five years ago it is fair to say they caused a stir. Put on the front cover of The Guardian, championed by Mark E Smith (who gave the band the money to record their debut album out of his own pocket) their gruesome mix of four bass players blending Psyche, Krautrock, Post Punk and an unmistakable image saw them launched onto magazines and websites worldwide. But it is only with their new, third, album ‘The Worst Show On Earth' (released yesterday on their own newly-founded Crackedankles Records) that the band have finally fulfilled their potential. Heavy, grinding and yet commercially viable, this new album sees the band truly shake off the ‘gimmick’ tag of the past and stride forward into new musical dimensions. The band are also touring the UK for the remainder of 2018, together with headline slots at Beatherder, Sonic Rock Solstice and Jesstival amongst other festivals, with European and Japanese dates being arranged for the future.

Toronto singer/guitarist Joan Smith has released her first solo single 'Normalize' as Joan Smith and the Jane Does and the title track from her 'EP' released last month is today's Video Of The Day and addresses this point in her usual full on uncompromising fashion! Blues Pills’ guitarist Dorian Sorriaux’s debut solo ‘Hungry Ghost’ EP, is set for release today on Soulseller Records, and coinciding with its release, Dorian will be playing his first UK solo show at the St. Pancras Old Church in London tonight. Inspired by the golden age of acoustic folk, ‘Hungry Ghost’ (see today's Track Of The Day) may come as a pleasant surprise to any Blues Pills listeners used to hearing Dorian’s expressive electric guitar licks. Sorriaux will then support Myles Kennedy on his UK tour this July, culminating with the London Palladium on Sunday 29th July.

An unexpected bonus from Ramblin' Man Fair's itinerary this Saturday is that Big Boy Bloater (Video Of The Day) is playing an acoustic session in the VIP tent at 3.35pm. Big Boy Bloater & The LiMiTs recently released their new album ‘Pills’ via Provogue/Mascot Label Group and they have fans in the shape of Imelda May, Mark Lamarr, Craig Charles, Paul Jones and Jools Holland - who called Big Boy “one of the great Bluesmen of our time”. Following on from 2016’s 'Luxury Hobo', ‘Pills’ anthology style makes this album such an engaging proposition, the twists and turns always find you revealing something new, hidden beneath the surface. They go from autobiographical to grotesque characters in one fell swoop!

The Cadillac Three have announced a very special show to follow their Ramblin’ Man performance, taking place at London's The Big Red next Monday 2nd July. The intimate gig will follow their main stage appearance at this year’s Ramblin’ Man Fair in Mote Park, Maidstone, Kent, this Saturday 30th June, and ahead of their UK tour with Black Stone Cherry this December, including a date at London’s Wembley Arena. The festival marks the band’s first UK performance since their headline tour in November last year, which included a sold-out date at the O2 Kentish Town Forum, and the release of their latest album, 'Legacy'. The album features the hits ‘American Slang’, which received extensive airplay on BBC Radio 2, and ‘Dang If We Didn’t’, which was A-listed at Planet Rock Radio and reached #2 in their airplay chart, alongside the current single ‘Demolition Man’ (today's Video Of The Day).

"Their closing track - a copy of Deep Purple's 'Burn' - showcases what final vocal talents he has. You don't cover such iconic Rock tracks like that lightly and he nailed it. I would have been happy just to have seen that but their short set was full of their own excellent material, including 'Fast Car' and their new single 'Why, Why, Why' which is getting some considerable radio airplay. With bassist James Scott completing the DM booted front of stage and drummer Steve Price driving the whole ensemble from behind the kit, they are an excellent addition to the festival and, probably the best band of the two stages today. Yes, they are that good. Another of my must see again bands." This Summer sees the launch of a brand new epic music festival Cool Britannia —which will take place at Knebworth, — the stately home of Rock, from Friday 31st August - Sunday 2nd September. Maxi Jazz of Faithless has recently been confirmed for a personal DJ set on the Main Stage on the Sunday which will also be headlined over the weekend by Happy Mondays and Ocean Colour Scene —with amazing supporting artists including Feeder, Razorlight, Embrace, The Lightning Seeds, Peter Hook & The Light, Cast, Heather Small, Dodgy, Space, Toploader and The South, with more still to be announced. Cool Britannia has also teamed up with the legendary Ministry of Sound. Housed in the Big Top, they will feature some of the best club DJ's of the era including Todd Terry, Brandon Block, Jazzie B and Alfredo. Each night there will be appearances by a host of club classic stars including Black Box, N-Trance, Rozalla, Alison Limerick, Angie Brown and Urban Cookie Collective.

Fields Of The Nephilim recently announced three very special UK headline performances for this Autumn to celebrate the dark energies of 'Samhain'. The Goth-Rock legends will play Manchester’s O2 Ritz on Monday 29th October, London’s O2 Shepherds Bush Empire on Wednesday 31st October and the O2 Institute, Birmingham on Thursday 1st November. These three shows – encompassing All Hallows Eve and The Day of the Dead – will also celebrate the 30th anniversary of the band’s revered anthem ‘Moonchild’. Fields Of The Nephilim will be joined by Australian dark art Rockers The Church, who will in turn be celebrating the 30th anniversary of their album 'Starfish'.
