  • Piston Interview 21/7/21

"Guitarist Jack Edwards sports a beautiful Gretsch White Falcon (apparently inspired by Bill Duffy) through a modern Kemper modelling amp whilst fellow six stringer Luke Allatt takes the more traditional Fender/Vox approach. With Stuart Egan on bass and Brad Newlands on drums the line up is complete. Fun and Fire in equal measures, this is a fist pumping, chest beating forty minutes of Rock joy. They get a lot of love from the crowd who chant along and cheer with gusto. Their own tracks – 'Rainmaker', 'One More Day' and 'Leave If You Dare' are awesome but it is their closing cover of CCR’s 'Proud Mary', rocked up to feck, that has me beaming and screaming along with them. What a great band. Keep an eye on this lot." That was part of our Piston Ramblin' Man Fair review exactly two years ago today, and after their set, Mother caught up with the band for an interview, which is today's Podcast Of The Day.

  • Tactics & Strategy 21/7/21

Iron Maiden release their 17th studio album, 'Senjutsu', their first in six years, through Parlophone Records, on Friday 3rd September, preceded by an already highly acclaimed animated Video Of The Day, for the first single, ‘The Writing On The Wall’, made by BlinkInk, based on a concept by Bruce Dickinson with two former Pixar Executives. Recorded in Paris with longstanding producer Kevin Shirley and co-produced by Steve Harris, it follows a month-long teaser campaign and global ‘treasure hunt’ for clues about the track title and concept. For 'Senjutsu' - loosely translated as ‘tactics & strategy’ - the band once again enlisted the services of Mark Wilkinson to create the spectacular Samurai themed cover artwork, based on an idea by Steve Harris. With a running time of a little under 82 minutes, 'Senjutsu', like their previous record, 'The Book Of Souls', will be a double CD/Triple vinyl album.

  • John Coghlan's Quo Review 20/7/21

"Coghlan finally returned to his kit on his favourite Quo song, ‘April, Spring, Summer & Wednesdays’, plus ‘Don't Drive My Car’, an interesting take/edited version of ‘Pictures of Matchstick Men’, along with the encore of ‘Rocking All Over the World’. Cue mass applause from the socially distanced crowd in the house, and even though we really tried to get them out for a second time, we humbly accepted the fact they had already played an afternoon show! Notable mention also goes to the two sound men from the Half Moon - top quality gentlemen!" Being positive and trying to embrace this week's supposed new 'freedom', today we actually have a new gig review, courtesy of Geoff C., who took in John Coghlan's Quo, live at London's Half Moon in Putney last Saturday, plus also a medley Vid Of The Day of 'Gerdundula', 'April, Spring, Summer & Wednesdays' and 'Rocking All Over The World'.
