Tiny Magnetic Pets
Saturday 12th September 2026
The Camden Club, London
Tiny Magnetic Pets are not tiny at all! The acclaimed Irish Electronic/Synth-Pop trio are huge in uber cool sound and style, magnetic to hear and watch, as well as an ideal intro into their musical genre. Their lyrics are meaningful and they also have enduring zeitgeist in appeal. I would say they have now achieved cult status, blending 1980’s Synth-Pop, 1970’s Krautrock plus David Bowie’s Berlin period vibe, with understated musical production. Indeed, they are compared to Kraftwerk, but are original not derivative and fiery independent in identity. They also have a back catalogue of touring with Ultravox, Midge Ure, OMD, VNV Nation, The Human League, Wolfgang Flur (ex-Kraftwerk) and Dave Keuning of The Killers.
For this special London gig they flew in from Dublin and delighted their devotees, who came from far and wide. The talented and acclaimed DJ and master of this genre, Blitz Club and Visage legend Rusty Egan, was also there, who has long championed Tiny Magnetic Pets. As was influencer Mark Wibrow with his wife Sarah, who runs the online Facebook forum The Electronic Café, along with Erik Stein from Cult With No Name. All arbiters of good musical taste!
The three-piece were not only here to promote their 'Astralux EP' released last month, but also have their fourth studio album, 'A Black Frame', in progress with renowned Synth-Pop producer Gareth Jones, who is known for his work with Depeche Mode, Erasure and Wire.
Instantly appealing, with a mature, yet edgy look, they are melodic, but not hard assed. Paula Gilmer on vocals and synthesisers is the visual draw and lead. Blonde and bubbly, I coveted her great black edged t-shirt look. Paula also had fun with her twirls and banter, as well as later dancing with a stranger on stage, who matched her moves. which was great to watch! I also loved Eugene Somers' t-shirt whilst he was delivering the beats, as well as the sound engine room of Sean Quinn on synthesiser, keys and vocals.
This three-piece performed a smooth, superlative, too short, genre filled set, of which amongst the gems played tonight were 'Not Giving In', 'Modern World', 'Lost My Guiding Light (Again)', 'Echoes', 'Spinning', 'Semaphore' and 'Here ComesThe Noise'. Thanks to the great sound engineer, namely guitarist and producer Francesco Accurso, The Camden Club delivered an edgy, Electronica infused evening. A deserved mention also for Andy Hart, the friendly Camden Club guvnor, who kept the drinks, bonhomie and good vibe flowing!
I can’t wait for Tiny Magnetic Pets forthcoming album, as well as their next gig. A great evening!
