Ridiculous
Saturday 9th May 2026
The Camden Club, London
Ridiculous are not ridiculous! They are an excellent group whose fiercely original musical offering has echoes of The Beatles meets Indie harmonious Brit Pop. With smooth melodic vocals and tuneful scores, their set was uplifting and life affirming. And you couldn't also help liking the band with their on-stage banter!
Greisch lead guitarist, vocalist and singer-songwriter Basti (Sebastian) Wocker was their frontman and raconteur. In fact Basti is a local Hampstead cum Camden Town hero, who runs The Hampstead Village Voice, cares passionately about local issues as well as the Hampstead community and is also now an author of the recently released book “Name Drop, Me? Never!” Tonight, Wocker was engaging, enchanting and so likeable.
As were his impressive bandmates, including Jon Moss singing away whilst playing drums (that’s right - THE Jon Moss from Culture Club), as well as award-winning composer Erran Baron-Cohen on skilled keys, trumpet and vocals. Indeed, Baron-Cohen was probably relieved to be let out of his locked room this evening, given he's currently in the middle of writing his latest film score! Last, but by no means least, completing this quartet was Peter A Noone, looking every inch the Rock guitarist, playing such an assured bass. Tonight, we were definitely into something good!
Almost having a cult status in these North London environs, their set list and compositions were really superb, crafting intelligent lyrics and tunes with aplomb to a delighted, packed-out audience at this, their spiritual musical home. Indeed, this turned out to be the scene of an exclusive musical party, and those in the know this evening, knew just how ridiculously darn great this band were!
In fact the only thing that is absolutely ridiculous about Ridiculous is that they currently don't have an EP/album deal, nor a promoter. So can someone take them in hand by the musical scruffs of their guitar necks, and put these outstanding sounding lads in the studio, as well as on tour. Therefore, please try and spread the word through this WRC review, photos and video! Thank you!
In the meantime, fingers toes and everything else crossed that you will hear more from them. Hopefully a Summer festival gig or two, as well as other gig dates will occur soon. Meanwhile, make sure you watch out for them when they next play The Camden Club, given the venue's affable and savvy guvnor Andrew Hart, the band's followers, as well as myself, all know from tonight's performance that Ridiculous are ridiculously good!
