John Lodge, bass guitarist, vocalist and songwriter for the iconic Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame 2018 inductees, The Moody Blues, releases 'B Yond The Very Best Of' on Friday 27th September through BMG Records. For this album, Lodge went back into the studio to totally recreate 'Street Café', '(Evening) Time to Get Away' and 'Legend of a Mind', with the wonderful musicians of the 10,000 Light Years Band. The tracks were co-produced by John and Alan Hewitt, and features Lodge on his original Fender Precision Bass which he recorded all of the classic Moody Blues songs on. He is joined by Hewitt on keyboards, Duffy King on guitars, Billy Ashbaugh on drums and Jason Charboneau on Cello. The result is a fresh modern feel whilst still retaining the original magic of these songs.

Danny Vaughn Black Heart Review 29/8/19
"The set continued to become an unplugged microcosm of Danny's musical career, dipping into previous solo albums, such as 'Traveller' with 'Badlands Rain' and 'Miracle Days', but also 2002's 'Standing Alone' with 'Seasons' plus the title track, with its infectious and almost compulsive singalong chorus. There was no let up in the Vaughn banter though, with Danny on one hand jokingly blaming special guests Collateral for all the technical malfunctions, plus on the other, Vaughn interrupting a story to diplomatically tell those still talking at the back to #STFU. They obviously were all to busy talking, to hear Danny's story earlier that he is in fact descended from Native Americans. Be afraid - be very afraid."

Tate Underworld Tonight 29/8/19
"The stage is almost completely cleared for the headline act, leaving maximum room for everyone to move around. The hospital intro starts rolling for 'Anarchy X', and the crowd cheers as the opening notes of 'Revolution Calling' fill the room. I've got to say that all the way through the sound was good with the vocals coming over very clearly. And that's the point here, we have come mainly to hear the vocals. Tate was amazing 30 years ago and age seems to have done little to reduce his amazing vocal range. Yes, of course there are concessions, but he still delivers a totally compelling performance." That was part of our take on Geoff Tate at London's The Underworld back in December 2018, and Tate, who also played Stonedeaf 2019 last Saturday (pictured), returns to the same Camden venue tonight, supported by Gin Annie (today's Video Of The Day).
Blues On A Thursday 29/8/19

Cleethorpes Blockheads 28/8/19
The first of three co-headline acts has recently been announced for the 10th Anniversary Cleethorpes Blues Rhythm And Rock Festival 2020 that takes place next year at the Cleethorpes Beachcomber on Sunday 21st June. Starting out as the band behind Ian Dury, the Blockheads are a legendary outfit that has grown in stature from the early days of the Stiff tour in 1977, right up to the present day. Backing up Ian Dury’s poetic lyrics, this is the band that brought you ‘Hit Me with your Rhythm Stick’, ‘What A Waste’, ‘Reasons to be Cheerful (Part 3)’, and ‘Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll’, among many others. Rarely off the road since the demise of Ian Dury in 2000, but now with Derek Hussey fronting the band, the Blockheads are still one of the most underrated British bands of all time, with a legion of fans of all ages.
Hawk Eyes Advice 28/8/19
Following an informal hiatus, Hawk Eyes are back with their fourth album, ‘Advice’, due to be released next Friday 6th September. ‘Advice’ showcases the widest range of styles and dynamics yet from Hawk Eyes. The band’s aim was to create an album where every track has its own identity, yet it works as a whole. As with every previous album, the band has been able to expand their sound once again and surprise listeners with unique twists and turns. For example, ‘Royal Trouble’, today's Video Of The Day, is not only the first single, but also its opening track - a huge song with a huge chorus serving as a fitting reintroduction to the band! Meanwhile, ‘Smokes’ features a spoken word guest appearance from actor and writer Richard O’Brien, whom you might recognise from his roles in the Rocky Horror Picture Show (Riff Raff), Dark City and The Crystal Maze series. With his iconic voice, Richard was the perfect choice for the track!
Too Much Rain 28/8/19
Imagine a life where every day you get up and drive your shit car to your shit job, completely indifferent to the fact that each dragging moment takes you a step closer to mercifully losing your mind. Well today's Track Of The Day is Black Aces latest single ‘Too Much Rain’, a rollocking, foot-stomping tribute to the drudgery of working-class life. Hailing from Bendigo in Central Victoria, the Aussie band consists of Tyler Kinder - lead guitar/vocals, Jarrad Morrice - rhythm guitar, Alex McMillan - bass guitar and Pete McMillan drums, and ‘Too Much Rain’ follows hot on the heels of ‘Feverdreams’, the second release from their upcoming EP ‘Never Change', that will be available through Off Yer Rocka Recordings during October 2019. Black Aces hard-won live pedigree shines through on their latest tracks following relentless overseas touring in support of 2017’s 'Anywhere But Here', an album that generated rave reviews from music mags and blogs alike, including Classic Rock and Rock Hard.
Stonedeaf Festival Review 27/8/19
"To sum the festival up in one word, I feel awesome is as close as I can think of, it really is superb production seeing as the organisers are relatively in their festival organising infancy. The Newark Showground venue is very well located, close to the A1. The land is very flat and you can park your car on a concrete strip, which what was maybe an old airfield runway, so you will never be stuck in the mud. To top that, you are only metres away from your tent as the camping field runs alongside the disused runway, plus some of the food bars are on the same strip and the stage is around 200 metres from the campsite. It is fantastically compact, but there is more than ample space for decent sized tents without the sardines feeling. The volunteers have so much common sense, none of those little Hitlers and power mad jobsworths that you get at larger festivals, or the type of security that want to strip search you instead of just looking in your bag."
With a Photo Gallery to come, today read the whole of Tony Burgum's Stonedeaf Festival review from the Newark Showground from Saturday here.
Live At The Fillmore 27/8/19
The Wood Brothers will release 'Live at the Fillmore', the latest edition to an ongoing series of concert recordings, next Friday 6th September via Honey Jar/Thirty Tigers. The 14-track collection presents highlights from the band's two night stand at the historic San Francisco venue earlier this year, and the album's first single, 'Keep Me Around' is today's Track Of The Day. Consisting of guitarist Oliver Wood, bassist Chris Wood and drummer Jano Rix, at every turn, the band gleefully subverts expectation, surprising even themselves at times as they blur the lines between Folk and Rock, Blues and Funk, traditional and trailblazing. 'Live at the Fillmore' follows The Wood Brothers' most recent studio release, 2018's critically lauded 'One Drop Of Truth', which garnered a Grammy Award nomination for Best Americana Album. The band will remain on the road through the end of 2019, including their first-ever headline appearance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre next Thursday 5th September and a headline tour through the Midwest and Texas beginning in November.
Riskee Cut Their Teeth 27/8/19
Hot on the heels of storming sets at both Rebellion and Boomtown Festivals, today's Video Of The Day is eclectic Kent Punks Riskee and The Ridicule's new single – ‘Cut Your Teeth’ – from their recently released ‘Body Bag Your Scene’ album via Bomber Music. An aggro, full-on sonic assault, ‘Cut Your Teeth’ is the perfect representation of the driving force behind Riskee and The Ridicule and where they’re at in 2019. It’s been an amazing year for the band, which saw the highly anticipated release of their third album well received by both fans and critics alike - a record that holds a mirror to the world with simultaneously acerbic and humourous analysis. You can also catch the band live at various dates from August to November including London's Electric Ballroom in Camden on Saturday 2nd November.
Allman Betts CD Review 26/8/19
"The short version of this album review is: brilliant! Go out and buy/download it etc. immediately! Being the son of a famous musician doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be any good with an instrument or avoid having a tin ear, but in the case of Devon Allman, son of Gregg Allman, and Duane Betts, son of Allman Brothers’ guitarist Dicky Betts, the apples have fallen very close to the tree, and despite this being a debut album, this fine collection of songs display a real maturity; while sounding as fresh as any contemporary Blues influenced record, it also manages to sound like it could have been recorded sometime during the early to mid-70’s."

Beast Over Europe 26/8/19
Outstanding German Melodic Metal six-piece Mob Rules, whose ninth studio album, ‘Beast Reborn’, was hugely acclaimed on release last Summer, are set to unleash their first live album for fourteen years, ‘Beast Over Europe’, on Steamhammer/SPV on Friday 13th September. The album contains fourteen of the band’s best songs, recorded at select venues on the band’s ‘Beast Reborn’ tour around Europe (including the UK - with Eden’s Curse in April), fittingly celebrating Mob Rules 25th Anniversary. Having just released the aforementioned milestone ‘Beast Reborn’ album (which crashed into the German National album chart at 37), ‘Beast Over Europe’ totally captures the uplifting, powerful vibes generated as Mob Rules romped round Europe, tearing their audience off their feet at every gig. Signifying that close connection with their followers, Mob Rules included their fans in the design process of the new live album artwork when they made an online call to share favourite photos from concerts or experiences with the band from over the last two years.
Tear The Sky Wide Open 26/8/19
Modern Rock has just been delivered a massive shot in the arm! Silverthorne features the soaring powerhouse vocals of Englishman Pete Shoulder and drummer Brian Tichy, who has played with everyone from Whitesnake, Ozzy, Slash, Billy Idol, Foreigner and many more legendary artists. Along with bassist Daniel Spree, Silverthorne have delivered a monstrous debut single in the shape of 'Tear The Sky Wide Open' which is today's Track Of The Day. With its ominous riff, huge chorus, driving bass, weighty drums and a groove that evokes the vast expanse of the Southern California canyons from where the band was born, the single has already got fans salivating. With influences ranging from deep Blues to Hard Rock, and acoustic Folk to Metal, 'Tear The Sky Wide Open' is just a taste of the soulful and earthy Rock songs to be found on Silverthorne’s forthcoming debut EP. Music that tips its hat to the Classic Rock bands of yesteryear as well as looking firmly to the future.
The Oklahoma Kid's new single 'Feed Me Fear' is today's Track Of The Day, and is taken from their upcoming full-length debut record 'Solarray', which will be available on Friday 13th September via Arising Empire. The band stand for breathtaking modern Metal that bridges the gap between technical intricacy and energizing rhythms. Since their formation in 2012, the band - consisting of Tomm Brümmer - vocals, Fred Stölzel - guitars, Andreas Reinhard - guitars, Robert Elfenbein - bass and David J. Burtscher - drums - has consistently pushed the envelope and have established their foundation in the German Metal scene. To coincide with the upcoming album, the band also have their own German headline tour in September with support from Unprocessed, plus later in September they are joint special guests with Venues on the comeback shows of label mates Vitja.
Mat's A Sinner 25/8/19
Sinner have certainly succeeded in living up to their own standards on their new album, 'Santa Muerte', scheduled for release on AFM/Soulfood on Friday 13th September. Artists such as Mat Sinner, who’s kept his band on target for more than 35 years, releasing well over a dozen studio albums (plus a number of live recordings and compilations), have got to be doing a lot of things right. The success of the German Heavy Metal act is based, last but not least, on its boss’s talent for unwaveringly sticking to his chosen course while never losing his passion for new challenges. Consequently, they have delivered another outstanding album, recorded by a line-up consisting of guitarist/co-composer Tom Naumann and Alex Scholpp as well as drummer and new addition Markus Kullmann (ex-Voodoo Circle). Sinner also take the new album out on the German road for various dates in September and October.
Stonedeaf Today 24/8/19
"London, thank you so much" Hughes cried out at he left the stage, once again to rapturous applause. As Staffordshire's finest so eloquently put it on the night: "Stand up for Rock music. It's not going anywhere. It's in this room. It's living, breathing, feeling it, sweating it. Seeing it, talking it, playing it and forever hold its peace." On tonight's evidence Glenn, thanks for practicing what you preach and for keeping Rock music very much alive and arse-kicking!" That was part of our take on Glenn Hughes at London's Electric Ballroom back in October 2018 (pictured and today's Video Of The Day), and headliner Hughes completes a mouthwatering line-up at Stonedeaf 2019 today at the Newark Showground supported by Geoff Tate, Inglorious, Wayward Sons, Massive, Diamond Head, The Amorettes, Phil Campbell And The Bastard Sons and Samarkind.

The Defiants Sequel 24/8/19
The Defiants are back with their second album, ‘Zokusho’ on Friday 13th September, and today's Track Of The Day, 'Hollywood In Headlights', is taken from the album. Comprised of Paul Laine (vocals, guitar), Bruno Ravel (bass) and Rob Marcello (guitar), fans in the know will immediately recognise that these three fabulous musicians all have ties to popular Hard Rockers Danger Danger. With their debut record having been rapturously greeted as a glorious return to the in your face Melodic Hard Rock that enraptured millions of fans back in the 80’s and 90’s, and is currently enjoying a renaissance, making a follow-up was a no-brainer. ’Zokusho’, a Japanese word meaning ‘sequel’ or ‘the next chapter’, is a big Melodic Rock album with huge choruses, hooks, soaring guitars and vocals that has all the ingredients to thrill fans of both The Defiants and Danger Danger.
